The Real Source of pride

It is expedient that we know the original source of pride and what proud people really feel inside, so we would be able to relate with them better, learn to see beyond their mask and help them overcome it.

I would start by telling a story of young boy. He was very short (Height) compared to his peers, he was the joke when he was not around. But most people think he is proud because of the tune of his voice, his fierce eyes, frozen gaze, quick reply, seldom smile, seriousness in conversations and brimming with over confidence.
But only his true friends and close friends knew that he wasn't proud, he only put up that attitude because he didn't want people to always make fun of him or take him for granted because of his height or petite stature.

Basically, he was looking proud because he was ashamed. He hasn't learnt to accept himself like that, the same reason he thinks people won't accept him and why he feels everyone might just make fun of him: therefore a defence strategy was pride.

MOST pride originates from insecurity and inner inferiority, and proud people would always deny this fact.
General Iroh said to Zuko (fictional characters) "SHAME IS NOT THE OPPOSITE OF PRIDE, IT IS IT'S SOURCE"

Although pride may come as a result feeling superior, but if you look deeper than the surface you would discover that most arise from shame.
Let's help the proud people around us, don't be harsh to them in return, but show them true love unconditionally, and slowly peel the coverings over these insure humans and help them accept the world as they see it.

Remember: Shame is not the opposite of pride, but the source of it.
