Home sweet home!
Whenever this phrase comes to mind or is said to my hearing, I feel peace, love and rest all in one heart beat.
Why is this so? Come to think of it, why should I feel this way about home?
What really is home?
Is it concerned with the kind of luxury I find in my house?
Is it the satisfaction I derive from knowing I have a place to live?
Is there a difference between a house and a home?
What makes up a home?
Is there an eternal home?
A home has different meanings to every aspect of our lives. Simply put, a home is more of a feeling.
A home is a place where we find peace, refuge and above all, love. It's like a final destination where if we can't find peace or rest there, then there is no peace or rest anywhere else.
A home can also relate to the heart; meaning having inner peace, a conscience free and a warm heart. Home can also be referred to as a career; that dream or goal which leads to that expected end which you desire. A given height to attain in a given time span is a home to your career.
Home is not dependent on the luxury you find around you, that is why a home is also associated with family. A family where real love and affection is exchanged or shown to each member of the family.
It doesn't matter whether you live in a one room apartment or a mansion. A house can never be a home no matter the treasures found in the house. Riches only answer to physical wants but not emotional needs. Therefore luxury cannot answer to the craving for a home.
A home is a habitual abode of one's family. You can migrate from house to house but cannot leave from home to home. There is a certain liberty you enjoy in your home that you cannot get else where. You can live in a house that doesn't belong to you but your home is always yours. House is a structure without affection while a home gives shelter and affection. It is filled with unconditional love: agape love. Love that stands a test of time and overlooks all wrongs done to each other that even if we disagree it only strengthens bond and doesn't weaken it.
The feeling of home cannot be seen or felt among blood relations or family ties alone. You can also have this sense of home belonging with people who share the same goal with you and people who help you when you are down.
These class of persons can be seen in the church.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is a perfect example of what a home should be. He gave Himself for the church, the body of Christ.
It's still quiet unfortunate that some people go to the house of God but don't get to be part of His home. In the sense that they don't have His peace, joy and all that He offers to His children in His home.
In John 14 vs 1-3, Jesus made us to understand that He is preparing a place for us so that we will be with Him.
In as much as there are many mansions in heaven, Jesus still said that we will be with Him. God is not only interested in the mansions He prepared for us, he's more interested in our being at home with Him.
The grave is just a home for our mortal bodies because when one is buried only the flesh is left there, the soul goes to its abode.
Every other kind of home is temporal but our eternal home is permanent and is the most important of all.
Even in our earthly home, if Jesus is not present, then there is no home for us. If He is not present in our hearts, there is no home in our hearts and if Jesus is not present in our careers, well, that home is lacking a roof.
Strive to be at the home coming party(the last supper) because there is no home like it.
Jesus loves you and is expecting you home.
